House Of David Virtual Tour  ~  Zoo & Aviary  ~ House Of David Virtual Tour  ~    Zoo & Aviary ~ House Of David Virtual Tour  ~  Zoo & Aviary    ~
As time went on  several versions of the zoo layout existed. This is our attempt to give you a sequential walk  thru the zoo and aviary when it was on top of the ravine. You have just walked thru the zoo entrance which had the restaurant on your left and the train station on your right . This is the Original Monkey House.  As you entered the zoo you would find this row of bird cages on your left or the South side or near the ravine.  There were parrots, small birds, eagles, cockatoos, peacocks and emus. Once you got here, if you looked to your right, you would see the stone house which is on the next picture You could then walk the path around the house and continue to the lion and tigers cages. If you stood in front of the house as in this picture, the train tracks would be behind you as the train pulled out of the southern main station. and   pass between the stone house and the lions cage. To the left of the lions cage was the train tracks as they were about to enter the east trestle and cross over the ravine. The lion cage was on top of the ravine and could be seen from below  at the miniature cars and pony rides,

The  lion & Tiger cages were opened in 1908 and closed in 1945. The animals were sold to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.

There was also the Bear Caves on the west side of the park.     Jimmy The Wonder Money Jimmy The Wonder Money
