You would get to the Aviary and Zoo by walking between
the restaurant and the south train station.

 
As you entered the zoo you would find this row of bird cages on your left or the South side or near the ravine.  There were parrots, small birds, eagles, cockatoos, peacocks and emus. We now walk past the Lion Cage (Which you can see in the behind the rocks in this picture.
You would walk along this path toward the Bear Den

To the left of the lions cage was the train tracks as they were about to enter the east trestle and cross over the ravine. The lion cage was on top of the ravine and could be seen from below  at the miniature cars and pony rides,

 The  lion & Tiger cages were opened in 1908 and closed in 1945. The animals were sold to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago.
